Dysport®

What is DYSPORT?

Dysport is a prescription medicine, also known as Botulinum toxin type A, that temporarily weakens certain muscles. It is used to treat cervical dystonia – a condition that causes uncontrolled muscle contractions in the neck. Dysport injections are given by health care professionals such as Dr. Lipscombe at Integrative Healthcare Partnerships – find out more about these treatments and how you can reduce shoulder pain with Dysport.

Is DYSPORT right for you?

Dysport works by blocking nerve impulses to those particular muscles involved in your movements. This reduces spasms, decreases pain, and restores normal muscle function.

Upper and Lower-Limb spasticity

Spasticity is a condition that results in muscle stiffness and involuntary contractions. It may occur as a result of injury, disease, or it can be an effect of medications. Many adults with spasticity find living their daily lives difficult because they are unable to complete basic tasks without the help of others. This blog post will explore the causes for this disorder, symptoms presented by those who have it, and how it may be treated.

Spasticity is characterized by stiffening muscles that are either weak or strong enough to produce abnormal movements or tension on the joints around them. There are many different possible causes for this condition including stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis (MS), polio infection leading to the brainstem.

Over the last 10 years, after thorough testing and research, Dysport has received FDA approval as a treatment for upper and lower-limb spasticity caused by any of the above in both adults and children over the age of 2, excluding only Cerebral Palsy in children due only to marketing exclusivity by another Botulinum toxin.
