Erbium YAG Laser Skin Resurfacing
Erbium-doped yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er: YAG) laser skin resurfacing effectively manages several cutaneous conditions and lesions. Its main indications include treatment of photoaging, rhytids, and benign and malignant cutaneous lesions. The erbium: YAG (Er: YAG) laser is a new addition to the armamentarium of skin resurfacing lasers. With a wavelength of 2940 nm, this laser produces laser irradiation in the near-infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. This wavelength corresponds to the prominent peak of water absorption. Targeting the water in your skin cells vaporizes the cells to remove micro-layers of skin at a time. The device is also fractionated, creating micro-channels in the skin that trigger the body to generate new cells and produce more collagen.
The procedure will last around 30 minutes. During the treatment session, you may feel a mild warm, burning, or prickling sensation, but if it’s not tolerable, please inform our team. After the treatment, there is a possibility that you have redness and swelling. You should put ice on the area for 30 minutes after the treatment. By day three, your skin should feel dry, so you need to use a moisturizer. Around week 1 or 2, your treated area should be fully recovered. If you feel uncomfortable feeling or any other symptoms, please don’t hesitate to call the office.
You may need 2-3 treatments in monthly intervals followed by annual maintenance for optimal results.
