Botox works for migraine headaches by blocking your neurotransmitters. These are the nerves/chemicals that carry pain signals from your brain to other parts of your body. The effects are only temporary. Patients will need to keep going to get their treatment. Patients have said that this type of treatment usually feels mild, but not always.
A headache is pain that can be on both sides of your head, or just one side. It might feel like there is pressure or an ache. Some headaches last for 5 minutes while others can last for weeks. There are many different types of headaches all of which are mostly caused by anxiety, muscle strain, or stress.
While migraines are more intense than headaches. They can make doing daily tasks difficult. They can be so bad that some might have to go to the hospital. Migraines usually only affect one side of your head and have additional symptoms like pain behind one eye or ear, nausea, seeing spots, vomiting, and sensitivity to light or sound.
Botox has proven to be beneficial to patients who experience fifteen or more migraines a month. In 2010, the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) approved botox as a prescription for people who suffer chronic migraines. Botox is not an approved treatment for acute migraines.
